The University of Victoria Vikes women’s field hockey team will host the Calgary Dinos on October 15, 2016. VILFHA are pleased to show their support as UVic hosts a “VILFHA DAY” on the Saturday and a Men’s League and Junior League Day on the Sunday. Tickets are just $5.00 for adults. July has been a busy month for many Field Hockey BC athletes who have been training throughout the summer in the lead up to the U16 or U18 FHC National Championships. Last week, July 20-24, was the Under 16 event hosted in Calgary. There were four U15 BC Teams that competed. The Boys BC Blue team won Gold after an undefeated tournament. The Girls BC Blue team won Silver, the Girls BC Yellow team finished 5th and the Girls BC White team finished 6th.

Island players included BC Blue’s Birkley Anderson, Jenna Buglioni, Janet Dawson, Chloe Langkammer and Ashlyn Toljander. BC White included Sophia Berk, Tennille Cole, Brecken Sales, Nora Struchtrup and Emma Whittaker, while BC Yellow included Jenna Goodman, Avery Nystedt and Cordel Tromp.

The U18 BC teams are set to head into their final playoff games of the U18 FHC National Championship, hosted Jul. 27-30 in Brampton, Ontario. All three BC teams made the semifinals including BC Blue playing BC Yellow and BC White playing Ontario Red to head into the medal rounds.

Island players for BC Blue include Cowichan’s Emma Dame and Robin Fleming, as well as Victoria’s Anna Mollenhauer. BC Yellow is predominantly made up of island players including being lead by head coach Krista Thompson. BC Yellow players include Victoria’s Natalie Boraston, Claire Church, Cara Butler, Judy Cristante, Nicole Gaul and Stef Sajko as well as Cowichan’s Ashton Aumen, Jenna Berard, Hannah Craig, Marina Ellison, Brittany Smith and Kyla Toljander.

On Wednesday, July 6, Field Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced the 16 athletes bound for Rio to represent the Canadian men’s field hockey team. As part of their road to the Rio Olympic games the men’s national team will be coming to the Victoria to host a field hockey clinic for all ages. Come meet and learn from our Olympians!

WHEN: Thursday, July 14
WHERE: UVic Field Hockey Turf
TIME: 6:00-7:00 PM
WHO: Open to all ages and both genders (GKs come with gear)
SUGGESTED DONATION: $20
BRING: Stick, shin guards and mouth guards

On May 29 the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame announced it’s 2016 class of inductees who will be honoured at a gala on October 29 at the Westin Bear Mountain. Among the nine inductees is field hockey’s Nancy Mollenhauer, a long-time Vancouver Island Ladies Field Hockey Association player and former University of Victoria Vike and Canadian national team player.

A member of the Canadian Women’s National Field Hockey dynasty team of the eighties, Nancy Mollenhauer was an integral part Canada’s ongoing international success. She competed in two Olympic Games (1984 and 1988), two World Cups (1983 and 1986), and at the 1987 Pan-American Games at which she was named Canada’s flag bearer. Nancy won a silver and bronze medal at the 1983 and 1986 World Cups respectively.

Nancy will join Canadian triathlon legend Simon Whitefield, basketball great Gerald Kazanowski, soccer’s Simon Keith, as well as Kent Manderville, Mike Spracklen, Randy Bennett (deceased), Bob Moffatt and John and Marilyn Bate for the Class of 2016.
